We bought an old cottage house, and the kitchen is very small. It had been redone in the 70's. This kitchen was very dysfunctional! Our budget was only $1000, and I needed a dishwasher.
Here is what we did:
I painted the cupboards with self-priming melamine paint. I purchased new tin, and used it for my backsplash. Then I added new white countertops. The cabinet interiors were redesigned with pantry pullouts.
Next, two panels were removed from two doors, and replaced with glass inserts. The cabinet hardware was replaced with new 'crystal' knobs. We found laminate flooring on sale for our 15' x 9' cottage kitchen floor. The island was made later at a cost of about $120.
Wow! What a wonderful cottage kitchen makeover on a fabulous budget! You did a wonderful job! I love the tin backsplash!
The yellow cabinets make the room so charming, and your island is perfect! I love when glass inserts are added to kitchen cabinet doors. It really opens up the space, and gives another opportunity to display pretty items.
It just goes to show you, that you can work miracles on a budget if you are willing to put your thinking cap on, and roll up your sleeves and get to work.
Thank you so much for sharing your inspirational kitchen!
