Headboard made from a vintage screen door
This is an easy project that can be performed at an affordable price point. I first started with a vintage screen door.
I knew in advance that the door was going to be converted into a headboard to fit a twin-sized bed. After removing all of the hardware I removed the upper portion of the door.
Part of the upper door was then added to each side of the base to make sure it would fit a twin sized bed. The sides were attached using pocket hole joinery.
Three inch side skirts added detail and depth to the headboard. Triangular supports glued and nailed in place to support and strengthen the side skirts were also added.
Then crown molding topped with a 7" B/C grade 3/4" plywood shelf, was used for trim. The decorative molding hid the edges of the plywood and completed the look of this headboard.
The last touch to complete this project was adding a French cleat in order to hang the headboard on the wall securely.
