Long Lasting Pillow Stuffing

Want to make a couple pillows. I can not seem to find any, nor do I know what to stuff homemade pillows with other than "fiber fill", which ends up in lumps and flat as a pancake in a couple weeks. Old pillows used to last for years, back in the day when we only had two pillows per bed.
I am just looking for pillows I can actually USE that will keep their shape and stay FIRM. Have a couple now that seem to have some sort of stuffing made of chopped carpet pad. Fiber-Fill just doesn't last!
Other than feathers, what was used years ago? Note: Duck Down or any other type of feathers continually stick thru the pillow which is very annoying.
HELP! Feel as if I am passing up the obvious. Around here ALL anybody knows about is "fiber fill" - There's got to be a better choice!

You have definitely touched on one of my bigger frustrations! You couldn't be more right about the problem with flat pillows!
There is a product called "Hobbs Polydown" which you can order online. It is very resilient, non-allergenic, and washable!
If you aren't wanting to make your pillows, the best and cheapest thing to do is shop at discount stores like T.J. Maxx and purchase feather pillows. Especially, if you are going to be using them on a couch, these hold up really well.
Good luck in your search!
